Timber Play Structures and Slides: Pairing Wildwood™ With Landrec Slides

Timber play structures and slides belong together. A Wildwood™ timber play space gives children trees to climb, roots to crawl through and stumps to balance on, and a Landrec slide gives them the ride down the hill. This guide shows how to pair Wildwood™ natural timber structures with Landrec embankment, stainless steel and custom slides to build a complete nature play landscape.

What Is Wildwood™?

Wildwood™ Natural Play Structures are play pieces made from resilient, rot-resistant Black Locust timber, with the natural shapes of real trees. The collection is built on universal design principles, so children of different ages and abilities can play side by side.

The Wildwood™ Pieces Our Clients Ask About Most

Wildwood™ Y Branch

Wildwood Y Branch timber tree fork climber by Landrec

The Y Branch is a climbing structure made from an authentic timber tree fork. It builds balance, coordination and motor strength for ages 5 to 12, and it makes a natural lookout at the top of a slope.

Wildwood™ Roots and Root Forest

Roots are giant timber root structures for exploring, climbing, crawling and hiding. The Root Forest arranges them into a nature-inspired play maze. Both give children a place to retreat and invent their own games.

Wildwood™ Den

The Den is a play structure inspired by traditional dwellings. Its modular design can take climbing holds, hammocks and ropes, so each Den can be set up for the site and the age group.

Wildwood™ Stumps and Stump Seats

Stumps make stepping paths, and Tipsy Stumps add a balance challenge. Stump Seats give parents, teachers and children a natural place to sit and gather, so the play space works as a meeting place too.

Interpretive Panels

Interpretive panels tell the story of a place: the trees the timber came from, the local landscape or the plants and animals around the site. Placed beside a Wildwood™ path or at the top of a slide, they turn a play space into an outdoor classroom for schools, parks, nature centers and zoos. Ask us about adding interpretive panels to your layout.

Why Pair Timber Play Structures With Slides

Timber pieces give children places to climb up, balance and explore. A slide gives them a fast, exciting way back down. Together they create a loop: climb the Y Branch or the hill, slide down, crawl through the Roots, and start again. Pairing the two also helps the slide fit the setting, because a natural timber layout makes a hillside slide look like part of the landscape rather than an add-on.

Embankment Slides for Wildwood™ Hillsides

Wildwood Waterfall hillside slide by Landrec

If your site has a hill or berm, an embankment slide is the natural partner for Wildwood™. The Wildwood™ Waterfall Slide is a dual-rail straddle slide designed for hillside races. For a classic hillside ride, choose an Open Embankment Slide in commercial plastic or stainless steel, or a Wide Flat Bed Slide so two children can ride side by side. A Tunnel Embankment Slide adds an enclosed ride through a mound.

Stainless Steel Slides That Suit Natural Timber

304 stainless steel has a 75+ year life, and its clean finish contrasts with the warm tones of Black Locust timber. A curved stainless steel slide can bend around trees and boulders, and a spiral tunnel slide fits a tall timber platform on a small footprint.

Custom Slides for One-of-a-Kind Nature Play

Landrec custom open slide: twin stainless steel slides set into a rocky hillside

When the landscape is unusual, a custom slide can follow it. Landrec custom slides, including the Custom Open Slide and Custom Tunnel Slide, are designed around the site, with deck heights reaching 50 ft and higher. Twin stainless slides set into a rocky hillside, like the project above, show how a custom slide and natural materials can work as one design.

Planning a Wildwood™ and Slide Play Space

  • Start with the land: a slope suits an embankment slide with Wildwood™ pieces at the top and bottom.
  • Create a loop: place climbers like the Y Branch and Roots so children move from climbing to sliding and back.
  • Add places to rest: Stump Seats and benches near the slide exit give caregivers a clear view.
  • Tell the story: interpretive panels connect the play space to its surroundings.
