The Challenge
Gallagher Square is the heart of downtown San Diego. It was set for a big transformation. The goal wasn’t just to upgrade the existing playground but to create a record-setting, one-of-a-kind space that would attract people from around the world, while honoring Petco Park’s baseball roots. Landrec took on the challenge to design a place that would bring joy to both fans and locals alike.
The Solution
Working with our design partners, Landrec set out to create a play haven that captures the spirit of baseball and connects with the local community. We built a BIG structure for kids and adults too. The anchor is a record-breaking 35-foot baseball bat climbing sculpture tats a look out to the ball field and illuminates at night, The big bat is connected to three bat-themed towers- symbolizing the 4 bases. At the center is a giant pitcher mound net floor. A bat rope forest, crawl tunnel mound, big slides, a solid oak bat and rubber glove are added to the space- creating endless opportunities for everyone to enjoy and get lost in the fun.
The Result
The revamped Gallagher Square is all about unity- bringing fans, locals, and tourists together in an epic, interactive playground. From the massive bat sculpture to the wild steel slides, it’s a place to create lasting memories while diving into the adventure of baseball. The redesign has boosted the park’s energy, making it the spot to connect, play, and experience Petco Park like never before.
