The Challenge
KidSTREAM Children's Museum sought an outdoor play exhibit that not only reflects Ventura County's local environment and ecology but also delves into its rich history.
The Solution
Landrec collaborated closely with KidSTREAM and Sitio Landscape Architecture to infuse STEAM principles into the project, and transformed a 20,000-square-foot grass lot into a captivating, sensory experience for both children and parents. Our design encompassed topography, landscaping, and the introduction of a stone lined concrete streambed for natural water play, crafting a magical world that encapsulated Ventura County's essence. Visitors explore a small world teeming with unique experiences: from the Channe Islands' majestic humpback whales breaching in giant waves to discovering pygmy mammoth fossils in a sand excavation area. The exhibit invites engagement with mud play in the streams, camping in traditional tents, and exploring a farmer's market. Not to mention, they can clamber on timber play elements like a Y branch or Stump Steppers or relax in a Hypar Hammock. Kids can take their adventure higher by ascending into a 20’ tall lookout post with rope bridges and a big stainless steel tunnel slide.
The Results
A singular, immersive world offering visitors an unparalleled learning experience, unveiling the essence of what makes Ventura County truly exceptional. Through this interactive journey, KidSTREAM's outdoor exhibits not only educate but also create lasting, extraordinary memories for all who explore it.
